My goal as a teacher is to prepare students for future success. Grades and test scores are indicators that students and parents look for, but in the world outside of school the indicators are far different. Are you a problem solver? Can you make sounds decisions based upon sound reasons? Can you grasp the significance of the material you are reading or the data you are looking at? Do you have a strong work ethic and a commitment to doing excellent work? Can you communicate effectively with a variety of people? After you leave school it will be the answers you demonstrate to these questions that will determine your success.Yes, I would like to see students getting good grades. And yes it would be nice to have you score well on test. More importantly, to me, it would be nice to meet my students in the future--after the have started careers and families--and hear them talk about how they are being successful parents, workers, and community members.
